Life Lately

I know it has been a while since my last post. To keep you updated, I recently shaved my head. It was definitely time for it to happen. It was a good run, but it had to be done. I am still getting used to it and it still catches me off guard sometimes that I don't have hair. My biggest fear was that I was just going to read cancer patient and everyone would start to look at me with that sympathy look that we all know and hate. So far, that's only happened a few times. It definitely will take some getting used to, but I think it will be a good change... and who knows maybe it'll grow back a different color and curly. It'll be like a game when it starts to grow back.

I waited a while for my next post because I wanted to be able to share my second PET scan results with everyone and then I forgot to post it, so now I am posting it really late. Most of you probably saw the results from what my mom posted on Facebook, but it is still exciting so I want to share!

To take a step back, my first PET scan was to help figure out what stage of Hodgkin's Lymphoma I had. That ended up showing that most of my lymph nodes in my neck and chest had cancer and there was also potentially cancer in my bones as well. That is what lead me to be stage 4. After 2 months of chemo, they check in to make sure that it is not getting worse or if they need to change the chemo drugs because it is not working. I knew mine was at least working, which was good, because my lymph nodes that I used to be able to tell were cancerous and swollen are no longer swollen. Woohoo! The question at this moment was how much of the cancer is gone at this point? I knew that even if the cancer is fully gone, I will still have 4 more months of chemo to finish.

So I went to get my PET scan on Wednesday, June 27th (sorry that was a while ago) before I start my 3rd round of chemo. I found out the results for the scan from my Oncologist Thursday at chemo and... the PET scan was negative! Which is GREAT news! Everything is working and progressing as planned.

Over the past couple of treatments, I have had so many people come to sit with me and visit me during chemo. For all of you, thank you so much! It means so much that you would take time out of your day to sit with me and spend time with me.

Other news, we got a puppy! Her name is Bailey and I absolutely love her. She is now a 18 week old English Cream Golden Retriever. She gets really excited around people because she just wants to show you her love and affection. She is starting to get big which makes me sad because I just want her to stay a puppy forever.

Also, I am two-thirds of the way done for chemo!!

Lots of exciting news and things that have happened the past couple of months! Sorry for the big gap in posts! I'll try to be better about posting!

8 chemo treatments down and 4 to go!

Love,
Sam

The Story of How I Found Out I Have Cancer

I've had a lot of people ask me recently about how I learned that I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Am I in pain? Did I just start feeling bad? Well, the answer to both of those questions are no. No, I am not in pain (luckily) and I did not start just feeling bad. I am actually pretty lucky that I caught it when I did. So here is my story and my timeline in case you were curious. Hold on tight because it is a pretty long journey that all happened pretty fast. Tuesday- April 17th, 2018 Some of you may or may not know that my mom and I have season tickets at the Fox Theatre. We love going to see plays, so the season tickets normally let us have a mother daughter date night once a month. The play that we were going to see was Something Rotten! This is the first play that we had been to since I had started my new job closer to home. We left right at 5 and were on our way down. With Atlanta traffic, we weren't sure if we were going to able to get down there like we usually do and hav...

1st round of chemo

Thank you so much for reading my first blog post. I have truly felt so much love and support after my first blog and I cannot thank everyone enough. I am going to try to keep up with my journey here, so I hope you continue to enjoy it! I have 6 rounds of chemo over the next 6 months. Each round is 2 treatments and each treatment is every other week. I just finished my first round of chemo (yay!). Two treatments down, 10 more to go! It's not as bad as it sounds, I promise. My first chemo treatment was Thursday, May 3rd. I had to arrive at 7:30 for labs, I met with my oncologist at 8:30 and started chemo a little after 9. Both my parents came, my little brother, and 2 of my really close friends, Morgan and Brian. I was so lucky to have a group of people with me. Unlucky for them, I was only able to have 2 people sit with me at a time. They didn't seem to mind switching out though. I had the sweetest nurses with me throughout the day. The woman who drew my blood made me ...
